Towards hydrogen economy law – legal framework and development for the regulation of green hydrogen

Green hydrogen will play a key role in achieving the climate neutrality targets in Germany and Europe. With the National Hydrogen Strategy, the German government formulated an action plan in June 2020 to initiate the scaling-up in the coming years. In addition, the European Union adopted a hydrogen strategy as part of the Green Deal), which covers the potential of hydrogen to decarbonise industry, transport, power generation and buildings. Essential for the implementation of these strategies is the regulatory framework conditions along the entire green hydrogen value chain at the European and national level. The Stiftung Umweltenergierecht carries out a comprehensive analysis of the necessary legal regulations for the production, transport and use of green hydrogen.
